there's always a raging debate on free will versus determinism, and if you put it that way and that way only, sure, i do believe in free will, but we can't always control everything, can we? i need to talk about binaries, but isn't it true that not everything can be categorised as so? as such, this posts lies in a grey i feel comfortable with. everything we face and will face is a delicate combination, a perfect permutation of events all falling together like dominoes to end up where you are now, and a lot of that is attributed to your choices. what have you done so far? and hasn't it helped you reach where you are? yet, i would have never been here if not for events just- happening around me, to me. i am who i am because of all of this combined.
there seems a sense of purism that can emanate in response to this; i want to make all my choices, to be who i am independently and without any help.
and that's amazing! it's a noble goal, but i- just don't know. the more this veers into subjectivity, the more scared i am of hurting someone's belief system. people may not be that sensitive, but they may, and i tend to be opinionated enough to be blunt at times if i don't stop myself. all i know is that your choices do hold power, and not everything you are is because fate did that to you. it gives you a sense of power, of self-confidence, of strength, alongside the burden of responsibility. if you can just accept that your choices have forged you, you gain the ability to be proud of them. and i think that's a gift.
